The Narrow Cove shows the students of Woodbury's six-week summer painting course swimming off the ledges of Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, Maine. The cove, which is about one mile square, was owned by Woodbury at the time and is now the property of the Museum of Art in Ogunquit. In The Narrow Cove Woodbury captured the tidal movement of water in the cove and the play of afternoon light and shadow on the rocks and waves .
