Label: In the upper left corner of the verso frame are the remains of white fabric tape.To the right of the fabric tape are the remains of some kind of white tape.In the upper center of the fram are the yellowing remains of a label with a double black exterior border and then double interior border, with the writing "...EN...ALLE... / ...23... / [none of the letters are completely removed] M...S".In the upper right corner is a yellowed rectangular label serrated top and bottom, with the writing "San Francisco Museum of Art...No. 2882.52 date in 5/12/52".Also in the upper right corner is a bright yellow label with the writing"Arts Council of Great Britian...Exhibition Matisse 1968 / Cat. No. 53".Also in the upper right corner of the frame is a small white rectangular label, with the writing "= 2-3-79" (in black ink) / "No. 101" [horizontal dividing line] / "22".Also in the upper right corner of the frame is a piece of white fabric tape with a number in black "295." In the lower left corner is a brown circular label, with writing in black "6, 664".In the center left of the frame is a browned rectangular label, with two red borders, upon which is typed "TR 10268/36 / [in graphite] 2619 (?)". In the upper left corner of the stretcher is a yellowed rectangular label, upon which is written in blue ink "4789.2".In the upper center of the stretcher is a piece ofwhite fabric tape label, upon which is written in blue ink "21268 / 19AC 53"/(in thicker blue) "MATISSE 295." In the upper right corner of the stretcher is a browned rectangular label, upon which is typed in black ink "Cleveland Museum of Art / Henri Matisse / February 6-March 16 1952". On the left vertical stretcher (near the top) is a white rectangular label, upon which is written "Matisse, H. / (underlined) Still Life with Lemons / RISD / 83- ' 96". On the backing board are three labels, a Museum of Modern Art Label from 1992, an "in the event of Damage label", and a new RISD Museum label with a red border.
Marks: In the upper left corner of the frame in black, possibly chalk are five letters "...P", the rest are obscured by white fabric tape.Also in the upper left corner of the verso frame is red writing, possibly chalk but is illegible. In the upper right corner of the frame are some blue marks, but labels obscure them.In the lower right corner in graphite is written "51...illegible...1 [?] 97". In the upper center of the stretcher, in graphite are the numbers "...9-0..." but they are obscured by labels.On the left center stretcher in graphite is the RISD accession number"39.093".
