On view from April 24 to August 2, 2015 at the RISD Museum. This is the first museum exhibition of architectural drawings from the private collection of the noted educator Alvin Boyarsky, has been an ideal collaboration between the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Institute in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University and the Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD Museum) in Providence. The partnership proposed between the Museums resulted in the first in depth study and presentation of Alvin Boyarsky’s collection and the unique story it tells of a pivotal movement in recent architectural history.
The collection, amassed during his tenure as a chairman of the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London from 1971-1990, features early drawings by some of the most prominent Architects practicing today, including Peter Eisenman, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Rem Koolhaas, and Bernard Tschumi, among many others. It offers a rare glimpse into the imaginative spirit of drawing that was and continues to be instrumental to the ideas, practice, and teaching of Architecture.
