Madeira/Timber

Publisher & Date
In the fall of 2022, the RISD Museum commissioned Providence-based jeweler and RISD alum Steven KP (MFA 2020, Metalsmithing and Jewelry) to create a unique work that would be acquired for the collection. KP uses wood as the primary medium for their jewelry, and the idea to utilize RISD's Manning Rare Woods Collection for this commission seemed to be a natural fit.
This collection of wood was donated to RISD in the 1970s and made available to students, faculty, and staff to use for special projects, submitted to a committee for approval. This film represents the first opportunity that the RISD Museum has had to document the stages of the commission process.
A large board of mahogany, mislabeled as madeira, was selected by the artist and hand-carved into a necklace, ring, and box.
