This double unguentarium was one of the most common forms of ancient glass vessels; it was especially favored by women in the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire. The piece was made by pinching a blown glass tube in the center and folding it upon itself. The handles were trailed on by touching hot glass near the base and drawing it up the tube. The trail was then pinched to create the zigzag pattern.
