Camillo Pacetti

This plaque is one of six reliefs illustrating the life of
Achilles, a hero of Greek mythology. In this scene, he
victoriously drags the body of Hector, who he slayed
in battle, through the streets. Nike, goddess of Victory,
precedes him with her attributes of glory, a palm frond
and wreath of laurel leaves. 

Josiah Wedgwood established a modeling studio
in Rome, where he employed Italian artists, such as
Camillo Pacetti, to create casts and copies of ancient
Roman sculpture and reliefs. Wedgwood pioneered
the use of ceramics for architectural decoration. This
relief was probably intended for incorporation into a
chimney-piece
