Marks: In the upper center of the frame is a piece of dirty white tape, upon which is inscribed in blue pen ".994." [9s could be gs]. TO the right of this tape, inscribed in pencil and faded is the RISD accession number "43.007".In the upper right corner of the frame is a new white rectangular label with rounded corners upon which is inscribed in black "C/NO. 45" [horizontal line and beneath that inscription in red ink] "/".IN the lower right corner of the frame is a series of illegible white chalk marks one of which may be an "R".In the lower left corner of the frame is alime green rectgangular label upon which is printed in dark green "The/ FOREST of FONTAINEBLEAU/ REFUGE of REALITY/ French Landscape 1800 to 1870". IN upper left corner of the stretcher is the RISD accession number painted in red.In lower center of the stretcher is a square paper stamp with serrated edges and a perforated vertical and horizontal line. The stamp has dark blue decorations at the edges and in the center with many numbers and letters(possibly stamped) including "USA(?)" and "26".In thelower left corner of the stretcher is a rectangular white faded label with serrated edges on which is typed "_COROT_ 3148/"Honfleur, le vieux bassin/vers 1830/Robaut NR. 35/41,7:29 cm".On the top portion of the vertical brace, in blue ink is written "CA 1409" (underlined).Below the blue ink are the remains of a circular stamp upon which are two concentric circles with visible and illegible writing.Below the circular stamp in dark ink and written vertically "R (?) H4013"; beneath this "SK/5338". On the back of the canvas on the right half are thefaint remains of two circular stamps.On the backing board are six relatively new labels (beginning with the upper left corner and moving clockwise) "RMN/NGC/MMA, 2. Metropolitan 1996-7"; "3 RISD 4. The Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis, Tenn. 1987-8 5"; "Reunion des musees nationaux, Paris 6" and finally in the center an "In the event of Damage label".
