Beyond The Pharaohs

Catalogue for an exhibition of art from the Nile Valley, made between 1 and 6 AD. Features a breakdown of day-to-day life in Egypt during this time, writing on the history of Egypt until the 7th century, summaries of ancient Egyptian religions, Christianity, monasticism and Gnosticism, and analyses of the themes that pervaded Egyptian art. Black and white photographs of the artworks exhibited are accompanied by analyses with an archaelogical/historical slant, and notes on the materials used.
